The Book Loft

The Book Loft

Have you ever visited a place and immediately thought you would be happy to call it home??? I walked into my happy place over the weekend when we ventured into German Village and checked out The Book Loft. This store is actually a pre-Civil War era home, with 32 rooms of floor to ceiling books! If you’re claustrophobic and think books are just okay, you would do best to stay outside. BUT, if you’re claustrophobic and LOVE books, you’ll quickly…

Wildlights at the Columbus Zoo

Wildlights at the Columbus Zoo

If you read my posts from the last couple weeks, you might have sensed my disappointment with Christmas light displays this year ~ Franklin Park Conservatory too expensive, and Wonderlights too seizure-inducing. But, let me tell you about a display that is truly worthy of the admission price and you should definitely check out – Wildlights at the Columbus Zoo. I need to preface this post by saying your experience will completely depend on the day you visit the zoo…

Lights Aglow at the Franklin Park Conservatory

Lights Aglow at the Franklin Park Conservatory

Christmas lights displays are popping up all over the city now, so we decided to check out the Franklin Park Conservatory Lights Aglow. We are members at FPC and love going year round to the botanical gardens and outside children’s area. However, much to the chagrin of all members, FPC decided to NOT include the holiday lights display with membership admission. It hasn’t been like this in the past, so it’s unfortunate they decided to exclude it this year, especially…

Franklin Park Conservatory

Franklin Park Conservatory

Have you ever walked into a place and instantly felt a sense of calm and belonging? Like you could stay there for hours upon hours and not have a care in the world? I have two such places – a library and a botanical garden. Take me to either place and I’m a happy girl. For Christmas last year, Sam bought us a family membership to the Franklin Park Conservatory, and it was like handing me a ticket to my…

Geocaching With Kids

Geocaching With Kids

To continue on with our outdoor adventure from this weekend at Blendon Woods, here’s another fun and free activity for the whole family – treasure hunting!! If you’re not familiar with geocaching, it’s basically finding a “cache” of something in a “geographical” location – Geocache. Anyone can hide a cache and post the coordinates on a geocache website for others to find. There’s usually a log book for you to write in and document your find, plus depending on the…

Surprise Family Outing

Surprise Family Outing

Last weekend was gorgeous outside, so we decided to check out a new walking trail for kids. I love surprises – both being surprised and planning surprises – so we decided not to tell the kids where we were going and what we were doing. Plus, anytime we mention the words “hiking” or “walking outside” Ava immediately says her legs hurt and asks us to bring the wagon for her. Oh my dainty little princess 🙂 We picked up McDonald’s…

Natural Playgrounds

Natural Playgrounds

There’s a new phenomenon with playgrounds these day called “Natural Playgrounds.” Parks are starting to create play areas for kids made entirely (or mostly entirely) of things found in nature ~ teeter-totters made from tree logs, climbing areas made from logs, tic tac toe boards carved into tree stumps, etc. They are really cool areas and a nice change from the standard metal play structures, plus, it’s always nice and shady back in the woods! Major bonus for our fair-skinned…

Apple Picking!

Apple Picking!

My favorite fall activity is definitely picking apples, and living in the midwest means apple orchards galore. We are partial to Legend Hills Orchard, which is a little further from our house than other orchards, but it’s also right down the road from the Velvet Ice Cream factory. Apples. Ice cream. *sigh* All the makings for a perfect afternoon. Along with being an apple orchard, Legends (I like to think we’re on a first name basis) is also a farmers…
