Happy 3 Kings Day! The Feast of the Epiphany celebrates the 3 Kings (or Magi) presenting their gifts to baby Jesus. This is usually when we take down Christmas decorations and wrap up the end of the season, but it’s also the day for making homemade donuts! Growing up, my mom and grandma always put coins in the donuts to symbolize the gifts of the 3 Kings, but with the way my kids go after donuts, I’m not taking any chances of broken teeth! Ha! Some years I’ll make dough from scratch, but today I decided to take the easy way out and just do some “semi-homemade” donuts using canned biscuit dough. When I saw chocolate chip biscuits, I decided that would be perfect for our donuts!

While our oil was heating up to 350 degrees, Eli was a big help using the donut hole cutter to take the middle out of the biscuits. Then it was simply a matter of dropping the pieces of dough into the hot oil and letting them fry for a few minutes. You want a nice, golden brown color on the outside to ensure the inside is fully cooked. We dipped the finished donuts in some glaze and sprinkled a little powdered sugar on them. Yummm!!!
