School’s Back In!
Well, this school year is off to a much better start than last year, accomplished by the kids simply stepping foot in an actual classroom. Whew! The dreaded “everyone must wear masks” letter came out, but really that wasn’t such a surprise. Would I rather the kids be in school without a mask? Yes. Will I raise a ruckus about it to the school board and start getting signatures on a petition to reverse the mask mandate? No. I’m just grateful school has opened with all the kids in class – no more cohorts and alternating weeks of virtual and in person school.
Eli was very reluctant about Meet the Teacher day but after seeing his desk and running into some friends at school, he whispered to me, “I’m excited about school but a little not excited but mostly excited.” I’ll take it! Ava on the other hand, wore the biggest smile all day (too bad it was covered by a mask!) and couldn’t have been happier to be in a classroom and meet her teacher. She and Eli both started on the same day – thankfully! – or she would have been in tears. She already was not happy about only going 1 day and then having 4 days off (gentle start for Kindergarteners).
The first day of school was super hot, so I drove Eli in the morning for drop off. He willingly got dressed, ate breakfast, and was overall in a great mood. Makes my job so much easier! Thanks, E! Ava doesn’t go to K until the afternoon, so after returning home from taking Eli, and having to answer the question, “How many more minutes until we leave for school?” I finally asked Google to set an alarm for 3 hours and told Ava that Google would give her a much better answer than me 🙂
The best part of the first day of school??? Bus cake for dessert 🙂
